influences JB 2022

John Bowe

With an unbeaten 1211 race starts and 254 race wins, John Bowe ranks as Australia’s greatest circuit racer of all time.

Affectionately known as JB, he’s the only Australian racer to have won seven national championships across four different categories (see Consummate Career) – there’s no doubt the lad has talent to burn. Even fierce rival Mark Skaife conceded, “Bowie can drive anything.”

Disregarding his lucky red undies made famous during his record, 11 seasons with Dick Johnson, JB is the first to admit that having winning people and winning products around you is a must.

“Success in motorsport is all about the fine, little details,” says JB, “I have to thank people like Bendigo Retro Muscle Cars who prepare and maintain the Torana, along with Synergy Engines, who look after its tough little V8. You also need good products, like Mobil 1. Steve and the boys at Synergy are very capable, they build a lot of high-end and race winning engines – Mobil 1 is the oil they trust and use. I also use Mobil 1 in my personal road cars.”

One thing that has followed JB throughout his career is his genuineness, authenticity – which extends to his resolute belief in only promoting products he uses and trusts.

“It’s my engine in the Torana, and when you’re paying the bills out of your own pocket, you quickly identify what works and what doesn’t,” says JB. “Up against the 6.0-litre cars, the Torana’s 5.0-litre V8 has to work a lot harder – believe you me, it gets the living hell beat out of it. It needs the unsurpassed protection of Mobil 1 to survive.”

JB’s a true Australian legend that Mobil 1 is proud to call one of us. Mobil 1 proudly looks forward to being an integral and ongoing part of his enduring motorsport success.

John Bowe and Mobil 1 teamed up to put together a series of Beginner and Advanced Track Tips for enthusiasts looking to take their car to a track day. The series covers basic car prep, hints and tips on set-up, along with a host of driving tips.
